Song writing...

The Northern Irish mind is an echo of ancient Irish ways. Myths and legends are mixed with quick wit and a healthy dose of the surreal. Such characteristics flow through the speech, humour and perception of the people today and are infused with a modern thinking that is influenced by American Culture on our left and European on our right.

David Oliver

I am a composer/songwriter. I have studied composition at Queens University, written & directed a musical and written songs in numerous styles/genres over the years. I have written ballads (performed by accomplished singers), pop songs (that received widespread radio play) and also instrumental music that has been played by brass bands, string orchestras & string quartets.

I am originally a cornet player and learned to read music & play in an ensemble from an early age within a brass band context. I then moved to trumpet an played within an orchestral context (Queens University Orchestra). During these years I learnt piano and guitar, both excellent instruments from which to compose, thus began my love affair with songwriting.

I have written countless songs and believe it has genuinely taken me this long to grasp the true craft of songwriting. Therefore I pride myself on writing beautifully melodic and lyrically poetic songs that remain focused within a commercial context. Some of my songs were released in 2007, again in 2009 and more recently in 2011 to widespread acclaim and huge radio airplay.

I write and record on the latest industry standard Logic programme on the Mac and I can send fully produced songs including arrangements or I can send stripped down 'rough' versions of my work so that you can judge the song as it stands. I can write on request for specific artists or I can write on demand for advertisement, jingles, film etc.

I have enclosed some samples of my work. If this music does not suit then I would be more than happy to send music that does.
